B.I.G. A WORLD FIRST
2024, Austria
Cineaste: Johannes Mair

On September 20, 2023, Jakob Schubert made climbing history by achieving the first ascent of “B.I.G.,” formerly known as “Project Big,” in Flatanger. Originally equipped by Adam Ondra a decade earlier, the route was considered one of the most demanding in the world.
While Schubert and Ondra joined forces for the project in 2022, Jakob went all out in a different environment the following year, bringing to Norway not only a film crew but also the vision to livestream his attempts, adding an additional challenge to a project that, on its own, bordered on the impossible.
Drawing on his experience in the high-pressure competition that shaped him as an athlete and a person, Jakob accepts the challenge and strives for an unprecedented moment in climbing history. The video not only captures Jakob’s spectacular first ascent of one of the world’s toughest routes but also offers an intimate glimpse into the mental world of extraordinary climbing athletes.
